Giraffes at Entebbe Zoo
The giraffes at Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (Entebbe Zoo) are among the most admired animals by visitors. Known for their towering height, graceful movement, and beautiful spotted coats, giraffes bring excitement to anyone touring the zoo. Their calm nature and unique appearance makes them one of the top attractions for families, students, and tourists visiting Entebbe.
At the zoo, giraffes live in spacious enclosures designed to give them room to move comfortably. Visitors often enjoy watching them stretch their long necks to reach leaves and branches, which is how giraffes naturally feed in the wild. Their long tongues, which can pick leaves from thorny trees, are another feature that interests people.
Giraffes are the tallest land animals in the world, with adults growing up to 5 to 6 meters high. Despite their great size, they are gentle and mainly eat leaves, shoots, and fruits. Their powerful legs can also defend them from other animals in the wild.
At Entebbe Zoo, giraffes are usually fed a diet similar to what they eat in nature, including leaves, grass, fruits, and specially prepared supplements. They grow up to 45 cm long, giraffes play an important educational role in a way that they help visitors understand wildlife conservation and the need to protect animals from poaching. For many people including visitors, seeing giraffes up close creates appreciation for nature. They are surely a great sight to the eye.
A visit to the giraffe section of Entebbe Zoo is both enjoyable and educational, making it a memorable experience for anyone exploring Uganda’s wildlife heritage.
